Contrast glasses for rainy days and night driving
Contrast enhancing driving glasses and some types of safety eyeglasses are often called night vision glasses. While most have a yellow, amber or peach tint, there are also clear driving eyeglasses that reduce glare mainly through polarization.
Yellow driving glasses are very effective during cloudy and rainy conditions as well as dusk. However - you should not use any type of tinted glasses in pure darkness.

Contrast enhancing eyeglass use goes beyond motorsports and driving and the yellow versions are also popular shooting glasses. Peach and amber tint is popular with golfers. Clear Anti-reflective Night Driving Glasses
, or polarized lenses are the only glasses that you should use during true night conditions.
Polarized driving glasses are also a good option as fishing glasses since the polarization (without too much tint) lets you see through the surface reflections.

Night vision eyeglass pros and cons.
Although they are called night vision or night driving glasses, the tinted versions that are most popular should NOT be used during night driving. Tinted night vision eyewear increase contrast and the downside of this is that headlight coming your way becomes even brighter and can be distracting. On top of this, any coloring of the glass blocks some light and can make it harder to see details during dark conditions.
Things to consider about night vision glasses
Yellow and amber night vision eyewear increases contrast in dull lighting conditions.
Added contrast makes it easier to see roadside details in dull light.
Higher contrast has a positive effect on gauging distance to objects and vehicles..
Night vision glasses do not offer image enhancement like true IR goggles.
Colored eyeglasses are not recommended for night driving.
Contrast enhancing glasses make oncoming headlights brighter.
As a rule of thumb, what is generally called night vision glasses, or driving eyeglasses, should not be used in bright sunlight or during night, but are safe and very effective during cloudy conditions, dusk and dawn.

Check out the pics I took below that show the effect of my yellow biker glasses. The first shows the light conditions, and the second is shot though the yellow glass lens:
Polarized transition night driving glasses
These may not be the cheapest driving glasses for sale perhaps but they are worth every penny in my book offering anti-glare functionality during night and contrast enhancing features during dusk and cloudy days. I also like the neutral styling of these driving glasses.
